(2-Bromo-5-difluoromethoxy-4-methoxy-phenyl)-acetic acid methyl ester (400 mg) was dissolved in 5 ml methanol and treated with 150 mg lithium hydroxide in 1 ml of water. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours, acidified with 10% aqueous hydrochloric acid, filtered and dried to yield 350 mg of (2-bromo-5-difluoromethoxy-4-methoxy-phenyl)-acetic acid.
