Procedure

A solution of Example 51B (17.9 g) in THF (750 mL) and methanol (70 mL) was treated with 1M LiOH (196 mL), stirred for 1.5 hours, and filtered. The filtrant was dissolved in 2:1 methanol/water (1.5 L), and this solution was treated with 1M HCl and water (500 mL total) and filtered.
