Procedure
2-(2,4-Dichlorobenzoyl)-7-(ethoxycarbonyl)-3,5-dimethylbenzo[b]furan (0.78 g) and hydrazine monohydrate (0.70 g) were stirred in ethylene glycol (6.5 ml) at 140° C. for 2 hr. After cooling, potassium hydroroxide (0.75 g) was added and the mixture was stirred at 150° C. for 4 hr. After cooling, ice and concentrated hydrochloric acid were added and precipitate was collected by filtration. The precipitate was washed with water and diisopropyl ether and dried to give the objective compound (0.66 g) as white crystals.
