Procedure
A solution of 8-chloro-2,3-dimethoxy-10-(4-methylpiperazino)-10,11-dihydrodibenzo(b,f)thiepine dimethanesulfonate (8.5 g) (see Example 4) in water (50 ml) was treated with 30% hydrogen peroxide (16 ml) and the mixture allowed to stand for 20 hours at room temperature. Addition of ammonium hydroxide liberated the base which was extracted with benzene. The extract affords an oily residue which crystallized from a mixture of benzene-light petroleum, m.p. 178°-179° C., yield 3.70 g of the desired base.
