Procedure
To a solution of 3-(6-Cyano-2-oxo-2,3-dihydro-benzimidazol-1-yl)-propionic acid ethyl ester (0.1 g, 0.39 mmol) in DMA (3 mL) were added 1-(chloromethyl)naphthalene (0.1 g, 0.58 mmol) and K2CO3 (0.11 g, 0.81 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at 65° C. for 16 h. When the reaction was complete, the reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate and washed with water (×4). The organic phase was dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated. The resulting residue was purified by silica gel prep TLC using 98:2 CH2Cl2:MeOH as an eluent to afford 20 mg (13%) of the desired product.
