A mixture of 6-methoxy-1H-indazole (560 mg, 3.8 mmol) and HI (2.4 mL 48%) was heated to reflux for 4 h. The mixture was extracted with CH2Cl2. The combined organic layers were washed with water, brine, concentrated in vacuo, and purified by column chromatography (CH2Cl2/MeOH=60/1) to give 1H-indazol-6-ol (intermediate 43) (436 mg, 86%).
