N-[2-(2-chloro-2-phenylethyl)phenyl]-2,2-dimethylpropanamide (1.0 g, 3.17 mol) was reacted with monomethyl amine (7 g of 40% aqueous solution) in 2-propanol (3 g). The mixture was heated to 80° C. and stirred for 1 hour. Formation of product was indicated by TLC (silica gel/70 ethyl acetate/30 methanol).
