tert-Butyl 2-[4-(ethoxycarbonyl)piperidin-1-yl]-6-azaspiro[3.4]octane-6-carboxylate (0.739 g, 2.02 mmol) was dissolved in THF (10 mL) at rt and 1 M LiOH sol. (2.02 mL) was added. The reaction mixture was stirred at rt overnight. The reaction mixture was adjusted to pH 5 by addition of 1 M HCl sol. and solvents were removed in vacuo, to give 1-[6-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-6-azaspiro[3.4]oct-2-yl]piperidine-4-carboxylic acid, which was used crude in the subsequent reaction.
