Concentrated hydrochloric acid (0.65 ml) was added to a solution of N-(5-cyanopyridin-2-yl)-2-(dimethoxymethyl)-7,8-dihydro-5H-pyrido[2,3-b]azepine-9(6H)-carboxamide (intermediate 236, 29 mg, 0.079 mmol) in THF (0.9 ml) at room temperature. After stirring for 1 h at room temperature, sat. aq. NaHCO3 was added and the mixture extracted with DCM (3×). The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated. The residue was triturated with Et2O to give the title compound as a white solid.
