To a solution of 3-(N′,N′-Dimethyl-hydrazino)-5-phenyl-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (0.200 g, 0.72 mmol) in 1,2-dichloroethane (10 ml) in an atmosphere of N2 was added 2,4-dichloro-benzoyl chloride (0.228 g, 1.08 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred for 1.5 h at reflux. Then, the solvents were removed and the residue was purified by preparative tlc (8:2 Hexane/EtOAc) to obtain 0.017 g (5%) of 3-[N-(2,4-Dichloro-benzoyl)-N′,N′-dimethyl-hydrazino]-5-phenyl-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester. NMR 1H (CDCl3, 400 MHz): δ 7.62 (m, 2H), 7.40 (m, 3H), 7.23 (d, 1H), 3.87 (s, 3H), 2.52 (s, 6H).
