Procedure

To a stirred solution of 2,4-dichloro-5-methyl-pyrimidine (3.61 g, 22.15 mmol), triethylamine (7.02 mL, 50.34 mmol) in DMF (15 mL) was slowly added benzyl-4-(aminomethyl)piperidine-1-carboxylate (EXAMPLE 13, Step 1, 5.00 g, 20.13 mmol). The resulting reaction solution was stirred at rt for 2 h, then diluted with ethyl acetate (400 mL), washed with water (3×30 mL), brine (30 mL), dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (20–80% ethyl acetate in hexane) to give 4-[(2-Chloro-5-methyl-pyrimidin-4-ylamino)-methyl]-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid benzyl ester.
