Procedure
A mixture of (intermediate 25) (0.0434 mol) in THF (160 ml) and HCl 3N (160 ml) was stirred and refluxed overnight. The mixture was poured out into ice water and alkalized with a concentrated NH4OH solution. The precipitate was filtered off, washed with water and dried, yielding 15 g (98.7%) of 4-(3-chlorophenyl)-6-(3-furanylcarbonyl)-2(1H)-quinolinone (intermediate 26), melting point >250° C.
