Procedure

To a solution of compound (162) (0.45 g, 1.29 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (12 ml) were added oxalyl chloride (0.17 ml, 2.59 mmol) and dimethylformamide (3 drops) under ice-cooling, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for one hr. To this reaction mixture was added 28% aqueous ammonia (1.00 ml, 16.44 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for one hr. and partitioned between ethyl acetate and saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate. The aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extracts were combined, washed with brine and dried (MgSO4). The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The obtained residue was crystallized from ethanol-ethyl acetate to give white crystals (0.45 g, quant.).
