Procedure
To a solution of 4-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-1-[4-hydroxy-1-(4-pyrimidinyl)piperidin-4-ylmethyl]piperazin-2-one (516 mg) in tetrahydrofuran (4 ml) was added a solution of 4N hydrochloric acid in ethyl acetate (4 ml), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours. The reaction solution was concentrated, and the residue was crystallized from tetrahydrofuran to give colorless crystals of 1-[4-hydroxy-1-(4-pyrimidinyl)piperidin-4-ylmethyl]piperazin-2-one hydrochloride (435 mg).
