To a stirred solution of tert-butyl 3-(2′-cyano-5-(methoxycarbonyl)-4′-methylbiphenyl-3-yloxy)-4-hydroxypyrrolidine-1-carboxylate (310 mg, 0.68 mmol) in THF (3 mL) was added 2.5 M of aq. lithium hydroxide solution (1.5 mL, 3.8 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at 60° C. overnight. The aqueous solution was acidified with 15% HCl (aq.) to pH=5, and extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound.
