Procedure
To a solution of (S)-4-benzyl-3-(2-(4-bromo-2-fluorophenyl)acetyl)oxazolidin-2-one (3.6 g, 9.2 mmol) in THF (40 mL) was added a solution of methyl iodide (1 M solution in toluene, 9.6 mL, 9.6 mmol). The mixture was cooled to −78° C. and a solution of sodium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide (1 M in THF, 9.6 mL, 9.6 mmol) was added dropwise. The resultant dark red mixture was stirred for 15 min at ca. −78° C. and allowed to warm up to room temperature. After 3.5 h the reaction mixture was diluted with saturated aqueous sodium bisulfate (ca. 20 mL), and extracted with ethyl acetate (1×50 mL). The extract was washed with brine (2×50 mL), dried over sodium sulfate, and evaporated under vacuum. Flash chromatography of the residue afforded the desired product (1.7 g, 45%) as light yellow solid: ESI MS m/z 407 [C19H17BrFNO3+H]+
