Procedure

To a solution of 2-chloro-N-[(1R)-2-hydroxy-1-phenylethyl]butanamide from Step A (2.75 g, 11.4 mmol) in THF (200 mL) at 0° C. was added NaH (983 mg of a 60% dispersion in oil, 24.6 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 18 h. Saturated aqueous NaHCO3 (20 mL) was added and the mixture was extracted with EtOAc (3×40 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was purified by silica gel chromatography, eluting with a gradient of hexane:EtOAc—75:25 to 0:100, to give the title compound. MS: m/z=206 (M+1).
