Procedure

HCl (g) was bubbled through a solution of 1-benzyl 2-methyl (2R)-2-[(3S)-3-{[(S)-tert-butylsulfinyl]amino}-3-(3,5-difluorophenyl)propyl]pyrrolidine-1,2-dicarboxylate from Step C (1.02 g, 1.90 mmol) in MeOH (25 mL) at 0° C. for 1 min. After stirring for 1 h, the reaction mixture was concentrated to dryness in vacuo. To the crude product suspended in toluene (25 mL) was added triethylamine (2.12 mL, 15.2 mmol), and the reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 66 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the crude product was purified by silica gel chromatography, eluting with a gradient of CH2Cl2:MeOH:NH4OH—100:0:0 to 95:5:1, to give the title compound. MS: m/z=401 (M+1).
