2-(bromomethyl)-5-fluorobenzonitrile (3.47 g, 16.2 mmol), 3-chloro-1-(2,6-difluorophenyl)-4-hydroxy-6-methylpyridin-2(1H)-one (3.15 g, 11.6 mmol), K2CO3 (2.56 g, 18.6 mmol), and 18-crown-6 (0.15 g) were dissolved in N,N-dimethylacetamide (25 mL). Reaction mixture stirred on 60° C. oil bath for 4 hours. Solvent removed by distillation. Reaction neutralized with 5% citric acid. The solid product was washed with hexane followed by 30% EtOAc/hexane. Filtered a brown solid (5.2 g, 79% yield).
