Procedure

Methyl 4-({cyclohexyl[5-(6-fluoropyridin-3-yl)-2-methylfuran-3-yl]methyl}amino)benzoate (1.7 g) was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (10 mL), 2N lithium hydroxide (4 mL) was added, and the mixture was stirred overnight at 80° C. The reaction mixture was poured into water, and the mixture was acidified with 1N hydrochloric acid and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine, and dried over magnesium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (10% ethyl acetate/hexane to 40% ethyl acetate/hexane) to give the title compound (1.2 g, 74%) as an amorphous compound.
