Procedure
3-Methylene-cyclobutanecarboxylic acid (3-chloro-pyrazin-2-ylmethyl)-amide (52.1 g, 219.2 mmol) was dissolved in 1.0 L of anhydrous MeCN. Followed by the addition of DMF (1.0 mL) and POCl3 (100 mL, 1.09 mol). The reaction was heated to 55° C. for 30 min. with a slow N2 bubbling the reaction. The reaction was then concentrated in vacuo, basified with cold 2.0M NH3 in IPA with CH2Cl2. The IPA/CH2Cl2 was concentrated in vacuo and the salts were dissolved with minimal water and extracted with CH2Cl2 (4×). The organic layers where combined and washed with sat. NaHCO3 (1×), dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was purified via silica gel column chromatography [eluting with 2:1 Hex:EtOAc] to yield the title compound as a light yellow solid; 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 3.24-3.30 (4 H, m), 3.78-3.85 (1 H, m), 4.89-4.94 (2 H, m), 7.33 (1 H, d, J=4.99 Hz), 7.53 (1 H, d, J=5.09 Hz), 7.82 (1 H, s); MS (ES+): m/z 220.28/222.30 (100/80) [MH+]; HPLC: tR=2.87 min (OpenLynx, polar—5 min).
