Procedure
A solution of 2-chloro-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (1.00 g, 6.39 mmol), bromomethylcyclopropane (0.93 mL, 9.58 mmol) and potassium carbonate (1.77 g, 12.8 mmol) in DMF (8 mL) was stirred under heating at 50° C. for 1 day. The reaction mixture was diluted with water, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure, and the obtained residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane:ethyl acetate=4:1 to 3:1) to give the title compound (1.08 g, yield 80%) as an oil.
