Procedure
To a solution of methyl 4-oxo-1-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-1,4-dihydropyridazine-3-carboxylate (2.00 g, 6.70 mmol) in THF (134 mL) was added DIBAL (1.5 M in toluene, 13.4 mL, 20.1 mmol) at −78° C. The solution was stirred at −78° C. for 1 h, gradually warmed to room temperature, stirred at room temperature for 18 h, diluted with 1 M HCl aqueous solution at 0° C., extracted with EtOAc, washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered, concentrated in vacuo and purified by column chromatography on silica gel (hexane/EtOAc=50/50 to 0/100 and EtOAc/MeOH=100/0 to 70/30) to yield the title compound (509 mg, 28% yield) as a pale yellow solid: 1H NMR (DMSO-d6, 300 MHz): δ ppm 4.53 (2H, d, J=6.0 Hz), 5.11-5.16 (1H, m), 6.48 (1H, d, J=8.0 Hz), 7.76-7.84 (2H, m), 8.08-8.16 (1H, m), 8.19 (1H, s), 8.94 (1H, d, J=8.0 Hz).
