Procedure
A heterogeneous mixture of compound 77 (80 mg, 0.45 mmol) and lithium hydroxide (97 mg, 2.26 mmol) in THF (1.7 mL), methanol (1744), and water (347 μL) was warmed to 50° C. After cooling to RT, the reaction mixture was filtered though celite and TFA (500 μL, 6.49 mmol) was added to filtrate. The filtrate was dried under reduced pressure to yield (1S,6S)-2,2-difluoro-6-hydroxycyclohexanaminium trifluoroacetate (78, 120 mg, quant. yield). 1H NMR (500 MHz, CD3OD) δ 4.21 (s, 1H), 3.63 (d, J=19.7, 1H), 3.31 (s, 1H), 2.17 (d, J=11.2, 1H), 1.89 (d, J=32.2, 7H), 1.73-1.53 (m, 2H).
