A mixture of 7-bromo-1-oxo-1,2-dihydro[1]benzothieno[3,2-c]pyridine-4-carboxamide and POCl3 (29 equiv) was heated to refluxed for 8 h. The mixture was poured onto ice, neutralized with NaHCO3, filtered, washed with H2O and dried to give a yellow solid. The crude product was heated to reflux with 20% EtOAc in hexanes, cooled and filtered to give the title compound.
