A mixture of 7-bromo-1-chloro[1]benzothieno[3,2-c]pyridine-4-carbonitrile, 4-methoxybenzyamine (1 equiv) and K2CO3 (1 equiv) in DMF (0.3 M) was heated to 100° C. for 1 h. The mixture was poured into H2O, stirred for 15 min and filtered. The crude product was air dried over night and then heated to reflux in EtOH for 1 h, filtered and washed with EtOH to give the title compound.
