A solution of 4.44 g (47 mmol) of phenol and 8.76 g (47 mmol) of 2,5-dimethyl-4-chloro-nitrobenzene in 50 ml of DMF was admixed with 9.78 g (71 mmol) of K2CO3 and the mixture was heated under reflux for 10 h.
