To a suspension of 5-chloro-3-(3-methoxy-2-tritylaminopropoxy)-1,2-benzoisoxazole in 49 ml of 2-propanol is added 1.5 ml of a 2-propanol solution (7.5N) of hydrogen chloride, and they are refluxed for ten minutes, after which the crystals are collected by filtration, to obtain 2.34 g of colorless, crystalline 3-(2-amino-3-methoxypropoxy)-5-chloro-1,2-benzoisoxazole hydrochloride having a melting point of 200°-202° C.
