A mixture of 8-fluoro-2-isopropyl-4-methyl-3-(4-pyrazol-1-yl-benzyl)quinolin-5-ol (0.066 g), potassium carbonate (0.073 g) and N,N-dimethylformamide (0.35 mL) was treated with methyl bromoacetate (0.020 mL), and the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 12 hours. The mixture was diluted with saturated aqueous ammonium chloride solution (3.0 mL) and water (20 mL), and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×5 mL). The combined extracts were washed with water (2.0 mL) and saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution (2.0 mL), and dried over magnesium sulfate. Purification of the residue by column chromatography on silica gel, eluting with a mixture of cyclohexane and ethyl acetate (1:0 to 1:1 by volume) gave title compound as a colourless oil (0.079 g).
