Procedure

To a solution of 4-[(3-bromo-2-ethylphenyl)methylidene]piperidine (D137) (0.53 g, 1.891 mmol) in N,N-Dimethylformamide (DMF) (10 mL) was added potassium carbonate (3.92 g, 28.4 mmol), followed by ethyl bromoacetate (0.190 mL, 1.702 mmol). The reaction solution was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The reaction solution was diluted with ethyl acetate, washed with water, dried over sodium sulphate, concentrated to afford ethyl {4-[(3-bromo-2-ethylphenyl)methylidene]-1-piperidinyl}acetate (D142) (0.693 g). MS (ES): C18H24BrNO2 requires 365.1. found 366.1 (M+H+).
