To a solution of 5-[3-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-5-hydroxymethyl-isoxazol-4-ylmethoxy]-pyridine-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (5.8 g, 15.6 mmol) in THF (39 mL) was added a solution of lithium hydroxide monohydrate (762 mg, 31.2 mmol) in water (36 mL) and MeOH (10 mL) and the resulting mixture stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The mixture was acidified with HCl (1 N, 30 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phase was dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to afford the title compound (660 mg, 12%) which was obtained as a white solid. MS: m/e=343.0 [M−H]−.
