To a suspension of 6-aminopyridine-2-carboxylic acid (10 g, 72.4 mmol) in DMF (200 mL) at RT, is sequentially added 25.2 mL of DMA (144.8 mmol), 12 g of 1-admantylmethylamine (72.4 mmol) and 38.4 g of BOP (86.88 mmol). The resulting mixture is stirred at RT for 16 h. The reaction mixture is added to 400 mL of ice/water. Filtration affords the title compound which is used in subsequent reactions without further purification.
