Ethyl 3-aminobenzoate (0.33 g) was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (10 ml), the solution was cooled on ice, triphosgene (0.21 g) was added at internal temperature 8° C., triethylamine (0.72 g) was added thereto over 15 minutes interval, the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 10 minutes. Subsequently, a solution of 1-(5-methylfuran-2-yl)carbonylmethyl-2-oxo-3-amino-5-pivaloyl-8-methyl-1,3,4,5-tetrahydro-2H-1,5-benzodiazepine (0.71 g) in tetrahydrofuran (10 ml) was added to the mixture. The resultant mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. Water was added to the reaction mixture, extracted with chloroform. The organic layer was washed with water and saturated brine, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography(n-hexane:ethyl acetate=1:1), to thereby obtain 0.82 g of the title compound as a light brown crystal (Yield: 78%).
