Procedure

A mixture of (4-benzylpiperazin-2-yl)methanol (2.8 g, 10 mmol) prepared according to J. Med. Chem. 1993, 36, 2075-2083 and 1,1′-carbonylbis(1H-imidazole) (3.2 g), triethylamine (2.8 ml) and tetrahydrofuran (30 ml) was stirred at 80° C. for 1 hr. Water was added to the reaction mixture, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with saturated brine, dried (MgSO4), and concentrated. The obtained residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography to give the title compound (1.5 g, yield 65%) as a colorless oil from a fraction eluted with ethyl acetate. MS 233 (M+1).
