Procedure
A mixture of 5-bromo-2-[5-(morpholinomethyl)-4,5-dihydro-1,3-thiazol-2-yl]-7-nitro-1H-indole (2.4 g), iron (1.7 g), calcium chloride (310 mg), ethanol (50 mL), tetrahydrofuran (25 mL) and water (5 mL) was stirred under heating at 80° C. for 18 hr. Water was added to the reaction mixture, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine, dried (MgSO4), and concentrated under reduced pressure. The obtained residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography to give the title compound (500 mg, yield 22%) as yellow crystals from a fraction eluted with ethyl acetate:hexane=50:50. MS: 396 (MH+).
