A solution of 2,4-dichloro-6-iodoquinazoline (10 g, 30.8 mmol) in THF (8 ml) and water (8 ml) was treated with aqueous NaOH (1 N, 4 ml). The solution was stirred for 1 h, then diluted with aqueous HCl (1 N) and EtOAc. The organic phase was separated and washed with brine then dried over Na2SO4. Filtration and removal of the volatiles afforded the title compound (9.4 g, 100%) as a solid. LCMS (ES+) m/z 307 (M+H)+.
