To a solution of N-benzyl-2-chloro-acetamide (20 g) in DMF (200 mL) were added 4-fluoro-2-methylaniline (13.3 mL) and N,N-diisopropylethylamine (22.2 mL). The reaction mixture was heated to 100° C. over night, cooled to room temperature, and the mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate and washed with water. The combined inorganic phases were extracted with ethyl acetate and the combined organic phases were dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated. The crude product was purified by chromatography (SiO2, n-heptane/ethyl acetate 1:2) to give N-benzyl-2-(4-fluoro-2-methyl-phenylamino)-acetamide (20 g) as grey solid, MS: 273.0 ([M+H]+).
