Procedure
5 g of the sodium salt of 2-chlorobenzimidazole are suspended in 50 ml of epoxybutane in a flask provided with a reflux condenser and a CaCl2 plug. The mixture is boiled for 15 hours, the epoxybutane is then evaporated under vacuum and the residue is taken up with water and made alkaline with 10% sodium hydrate. After agitation for about 1 hour it is filtered and the residue obtained is crystallised twice from benzene. A white product is obtained which melts at 126°.
