To a solution of (4-iodophenyl)methanamine (5 g, 18.5 mmol) and benzyl chloroformate (3.47 g) in a mixture of tetrahydrofuran (20 mL) and H2O (50 mL) was added K2CO3 (10.2 g, 74 mmol) at 5° C. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 5 hours, and partitioned between ethyl acetate and brine. The organic phase was washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated to afford the title compound. LC-MS (ESI): m/z 368 (M+H), RT: 2.25 min; 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 4.32 (d, J=6.0 Hz, 2H), 5.13 (s, 2H), 7.03 (d, J=7.6 Hz, 2H), 7.32-7.36 (m, 5H), 7.65 (d, J=8.0 Hz, 2H).
