7-Azidoheptyltosylate (920 mg, 3.8 mmol) was dissolved in DMF (12 mL). 4-Chlorophenol (650 mg, 5.0 mmol) and K2CO3 (1.7 g, 12.3 mmol) were added and the mixture was heated to 90° C. for 4 h. The mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, the residue was partitioned between EtOAc (100 mL) and water (25 mL). The organic layer was dried, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. Flash chromatography (silica gel, hexanes/EtOAc 95/5) yielded 1-azido-7-(4-chlorophenoxy)-heptane (579 mg, 49%). 1-Azido-7-(4-chlorophenoxy)-heptane (570 mg, 2.1 mmol) was dissolved in EtOH (3 mL). Pd/C (101 mg, 10%) was added and the mixture was stirred under an atmosphere of H2 for 75 min. The reaction mixture was filtered through celite and concentrated under reduced pressure to yield the title compound (453 mg, 89%). The product contained ˜25% of 7-(phenoxy)-heptylamine.
