Procedure
20.4 g of 5-butoxy-3-(4-methoxybenzoyl)-2-isoxazoline and 1.4 g of p-toluenesulfonic acid in 200 ml of toluene are stirred under reflux for 8 hours. Stirring with 50 ml of sodium hydrogen carbonate solution is then carried out and the aqueous phase is separated off. After concentration of the organic phase and purification over silica gel, 3-(4-methoxybenzoyl)isoxazole is obtained in the form of colourless crystals, m.p: 71-73° C.
