Trityl chloride (6.8 g, 24 mmol) was added to a solution of 3,5-dibromo-1H-1,2,4-triazole (5 g, 22 mmol) and triethylamine (3.4 mL, 24.2 mmol) in DMF (100 mL) and stirred 16 h. The mixture was poured into rapidly stirred water (300 mL). The white precipitate was collected, washed with hexanes and dried on high vacuum to yield 10.2 g of Intermediate 359.1 as a white solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ ppm 7.09-7.17 (m, 6H) 7.28-7.35 (m, 9H).
