Procedure
A mixture of methyl 4-[(3-tert-butyl-5-oxo-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)methyl]benzoate (2.00 g, 6.94 mmol), benzyl bromide (0.91 mL, 7.7 mmol), potassium carbonate (0.96 g, 6.9 mmol) and N,N-dimethylformamide (25 mL) was stirred overnight at room temperature. Water was added to the reaction solution, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract washed with aqueous sodium chloride solution, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue subjected to silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate:hexane=1:3) to give the title compound (2.14 g, yield 81%) as a yellow oil. 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ: 1.29 (9H, s), 3.90 (3H, s), 5.01 (2H, s), 5.19 (2H, s), 5.49 (1H, s), 7.00-7.37 (7H, m), 7.92-8.00 (2H, m).
