Procedure
A solution of 3,5-dichlorobenzaldehyde (7.5 g, 43 mmol) in THF (75 mL) was cooled to 0° C. and vinylmagnesiuin bromide (1M in THF, 48 mL, 48 mmol) was added dropwise. The reaction was warmed to room temperature and was stirred overnight. Aqueous HCl (1N) and EtOAc were added. The aqueous solution was extracted with EtOAc and the organic solution was dried (MgSO4), filtered, and concentrated. The residue was used in the next step without further purification.
