Procedure
6-Chloro-2,3-dihydro-1,3-dioxo-2-[2-[N-methyl-N-(phenylmethyl)]ethyl]-1H-isoindole-5-sulfonamide. Reaction of 4-chloro-5-sulfamoylphthalimide (9.5 g., 0.0365 mole) and 2-[N-methyl-N-(phenylmethyl)]ethylamine (6.0 g., 0.0365 mole) in 200 ml. of amyl alcohol at reflux temperature for a 24 hr. period under nitrogen according to the procedure of Example 1(a) afforded a 57% yield of the 1,3-dioxoisoindole intermediate, m.p. 182°-187° C.
