Procedure

20 mg of cis-1-acetyl-4-hydroxy-2-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline was dissolved in 2 mL of tetrahydrofuran, and 3 mg of sodium hydride was added to the solution under ice cooling. The mixture was stirred for 30 minutes under ice cooling. 15 of benzyl bromide was further added to the solution, and the resulting mixture was stirred for one whole day. Water was added to the reaction liquid, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. Subsequently, the organic layer was washed with saturated brine, dehydrated over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and then concentrated under reduced pressure. The resulting residue was purified by using silica gel chromatography (ethyl acetate:hexane=1:2), and thus 9 mg (yield 31%) of the title compound was obtained as a yellow solid.
