Procedure
A solution of ethyl 6-bromo-1-benzofuran-3-carboxylate (14.90 g, 55.4 mmol) in 200 mL of DMA was added potassium phthalimide (10.3 g, 55.4 mmol) and CuI (10.6 g, 55.4 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at 150° C. under nitrogen atmosphere overnight. The reaction mixture was concentrated under vacuum, and the residue was dissolved in DCM, filtered through Celite®. The filtration was concentrated and purified with silica gel column chromatograph to give ethyl 6-(1,3-dioxo-1,3-dihydro-2H-isoindol-2-yl)-1-benzofuran-3-carboxylate.
