Procedure

(E)-Methyl 4-(bis(2-methoxyethyl)amino)but-2-enoate (77) (10.0 g, 43 mmol) was hydrolyzed with LiOH (5.4 g, 130 mmol) in THF (100 mL) and H2O (50 mL) to give (E)-4-(bis(2-methoxyethyl)amino)but-2-enoic acid (78) (quantative yield) as a yellow oil. LC-MS (ESI): m/z (M+1) 218.1.
