To 3 mL of dichloromethane solution containing 95 mg of (7-methoxy-4-methyl-2-oxoquinolin-1(2H)-yl)acetaldehyde, 81 mg of tert-butyl(3-phenylpropyl)(piperidin-4-yl)carbamate, 18 μl of acetic acid and 98 mg of sodium triacetoxyborohydride were added and stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. To the reaction mixture, water, ethyl acetate and aqueous saturated sodium hydrogen carbonate solution were added. The organic layer was separated, and washed with aqueous saturated sodium chloride solution, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give 0.16 g of tert-butyl (1-(2-(7-methoxy-4-methyl-2-oxoquinolin-1(2H)-yl)ethyl)piperidin-4-yl)(3-phenylpropyl)carbamate as a brown foam.
