A mixture of 6-Carboethoxy-2,4-dichloro-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinazoline (7.68 g), 2-propanol (7 mL) and 30% ammonium hydroxide (12 mL) was heated in a sealed tube at 130° C. for 20 min. The tube was cooled and 20 mL of H2O was added to the mixture. The solid which precipitated was collected and dried to yield 4-Amino-6-carboethoxy-2-chloro-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinazoline.
